yo !
I still have some AIX and Wintel Server running MQ V 5.2 (last CSD) in Production. We would like to migrate to MQV6.0 , Can we do that directly or must first Upgrade to MQV5.3 then to MQ V6.0.
Thanks for you help...because we don't have any MQV5.2 on Test or Dev |

AFAIK there is no problem going from 5.2 -> 6.0, skipping 5.3. But I would suggest it would be a really GOOD idea to get hold of a Windows and AIX box and install 5.2, and then upgradr to 6.0.

Hi,
We asked that exact question to IBM. As dgolding said there should be no problem, but as 5.2 is out of support IBM never tested it. They suggested that we do a backup of the Queue Manager definitions, and do a complete uninstall and reinstall and recreate the queue manager to ensure that it worked.

This is what a specialist from IBM says............so becarefull when playing with mainframes.....not for children babies
IBM :
"Ziad,
Migration for non-z/OS (or OS/390) platform from V5.2 to V6.0 is supported. Things to consider are that some former product extensions (supportpacs) are maybe no longer supported - in fact, superseded - in V6.0 (e.g. MA0C, MA0R, MA88, MACS).
For z/OS though, one-step migration from V5.2 is not officially supported for production systems. Customer should first migrate to V5.3.1 and then to V6.0.
Especially if customer uses shared queues and wants to mix qmgrs of different versions in a single sharing group (coexistence PTFs are required). There is a documented migration from V5.2 to V6.0 - for test systems - in the WebSphere MQ for z/OS System Setup Guide V6.0. Also note in case of coexistence, obviously, that the early code should be at the latest V6.0 level.
