Hello

I'm going to try and ask this without sounding dumb but here goes:

If I wanted to grasp MQ well and in good time what is the best process. I have recently moved within my company into Production Support for MQ, and the guy who is supposed to be training me is not very forthcoming with info and his people skills are none existent. Any advice would be appreciated!!

All the best.

Barney

I would say that it really depends on what your role is going to be....for Administration I would recommend starting with the Intercommunications manual. If you are going to be supporting programmers then the APG is the book to start with.

I believe there are some really good (and free) presentations out there in internet land that give a good, basic all round concept type grounding.

As ever, there are plenty of course too but that will cost you and being a Tyke that may not sit too well

Start with this:
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg24006526&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en

Then read the Intercommunications Manual. Yeah, its a whopper, but its the best book to read to understand the hows and whys of MQ. If you understand how and why, you can figure problems out.

Keep this link handy, and use it to search whenever you have a question:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wmqv6/v6r0/index.jsp

Get MQ installed on your desktop, build a few QMs, get them talking, maybe build a cluster.

Then learn how to say "OK, its not an MQ problem, but let me help you fix your problem anyway". You'll be saying it constantly in an MQ support role.
