I was wondering if any of you'll know the steps that are required to be followed in the Websphere MQ Admin module to generate a list of machines with MQ installed on them. Thanks |

To the best of my knowledge there isn't a way of doing it 'out of the box'.
It may be possible with a monitoring program or user written agent on the machines, but these don't come as standard. |

What, exactly, did you mean by "MQ Admin module"? _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Hi Jeff, I've used the term 'Websphere Admin module' very loosely; what I’m basically looking for is some sort of functionality that would provide me with the list of machines on which MQ has been installed. |

Okay. It could have been that you were referring to a specific piece from some product or another. And that product might have had the functionality built-in. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I would assume that you need some sort of a server inventory manager to achieve this. You might want to ask your server guys whether they have something like this. |

Let's have a shot at this.
- if there is no qmgr connected to the MQ network on any of the servers you will have no way of knowing but for asking the machine admin....
- The assumption here is that you have knowledge of at least one qmgr in the MQ network and have admin rights to it. The other assumption is that this qmr is connected to others in the network. The last assumption is that the connections are TCP/IP other fields need to come in play for other protocols.
- Access your queue manager and inspect the different channels as defined. More specifically check out the CONNAME on the different channels. Do not forget cluster channels. Can also be done looking at channel status.
- Collect the information you found in the CONNAME.
- Talk to your network admins and get access to the boxes revealed in the list above. You may want to be in the mqm or mqadmin group.
- repeat the process above.
