What do you want to monitor?
How much do you want to pay?
How much is it worth to know the things you want to monitor? _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

The simple answer is that the problem is always in your application.
The more complicated answer is - you need to understand how your messages get moved in order to monitor the message transmission.
If you need to monitor business level information (customer number, etc.) as messages move around an MQ network, you are going to have to likely pay more than if you just need to monitor that Queue A has messages on it and shouldn't. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I'm sure you know, but the best way of doing this is get a list of all your monitory requirements then fire these off as an RFI to the various vendors to see if they can meet your requirements. Then get the top 2 or 3 in to present to you. _________________ Regards

We don't know what your basic requirements are.
You haven't said what parts of MQ you want to monitor.
Do you want to watch the depth of a queue, and see if it reachs a certain level?
Do you want to watch a queue, and see what messages go onto it, and when they are removed?
Do you want to watch your entire MQ network, and watch all messages as they move from queue to application to queue to application?
Do you want to monitor the queue manager to determine if it's running?
Do you want to monitor your client connections - if you have any?
Do you want to monitor your channels, and make sure they don't stop unexpectedly?
Do you want to monitor the error logs of your queue managers, and do something if a message shows up?
Or do you just want to put in the cheapest possible thing, and then tell management "Yes, we are monitoring MQ", without answering any of the above questions? _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

basically, I am looking for a tools that can help develper to view the qmanager/queue. Also, I have requirement for monitoring the whole network but that is separate need. The current need is for enabling developer to view the that affect them.
thanks |

That's not really a monitoring tool - although one is usually included with monitoring tools.
You can look at IH03 and the RFHUTIL and RFHUTILC programs included.
You can look at the presupplied amqsbcg.
You can look at CapitalWare's fine products.
None of these avoid the need to use good MQ security. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
