We have WBIMB v5 in production on Windows 2000, and we have WBIMB v6 running on Windows 2003, but not in production. WBIMB v6 is an interesting experience.

We were considering going into production with WBIMB v6, but are a bit hesitant.

Is anyone running WBIMB v6 under Windows 2003 in production?

So, will someone's positive or negative experience implementing v6 in a production environment influence your decision?

Hello JT,

Sure.

I would request a phone call, compare environments, and use their experience to augment my own, then make a decision.

Of course, I would update the forum on any usefull information.

spbeever,

Let's say you survey 20 fellow administrators, and they all provide positive feedback regarding v6 in a production environment, are you saying that this is just enough to give you that level of comfort, enough so, that you would go forward with the upgrade ?

Personally, I wouldn't allow someone else's experience to influence my decision (regardless of the degree factor) to progress an upgrade to a production environment, especially one I was responsible for. Instead, I would base my decision primarily on how the version reacted and the results seen in the other environments, those leading up to production, from my own installation. Another major factor I'd consider is the business' threshold (re: willingness) for withstanding any potential consequences, resulting from a "bleeding-edge" upgrade (re: has there even been a fixpack yet?).

Not looking to discourage you, just to provide some "food for thought".

*Edit: Apparently, fixpack 1 was just announced 2 weeks ago.

Also, some of the other things like:
Do you also have to upgrade the underlying:
OS
MQ
WAS
Adapters
Database
Java versions etc
Any other prerequisite software

Can the developers have the new toolkits installed.
Can they have both the versions of toolkits?
Will that break anything else, like RSA or WID or WSAD etc?

Hi guys,
I'm sure people are using MB6 for development already, but has anyone put it into the production environment.....?

We have been hearing about problems right from installation, where the nodes are not visible etc etc...is MB6 stable enough to go into production yet ?

The first fix pack is already out and there are still enough issues...all posts now seem to be dominated by MB 6...is it time yet to move on to MB 6 completely....?

Regards.

Hello,

I appreciate the thoughtful advice and time spent providing comments.

We start end2end testing of WBIMB v6 flows on 2/27. Perhaps production in June. We hand coded the ESQL to handle the SOAP calls, we do not use MRM. I am looking into how WBIMB v6 handles SOAP format messages to see if it can offer an alternative to the hand coding.

We have simple flows, mostly web service calls to .Net-hosted services using SOAP calls and "document format", not "object format " (MS Studio terms - but VERY important for understanding the XML format that is generated).

I had hoped somebody would say good things ... having to start the toolkit from the command line, also having to place all our source code under a single project for the debugger to work, and the generally flacky behavior of the debugger sparked my question.

Thanks again, and any other comments, suggestions, observations, etc. are always appreciated.

With v6, both SOAP 1.1 and SOAP 1.3 message definitions are supplied by IBM within the toolkit.

My colleagues would like to work with you on this. If there's anything stopping you from moving forward, please raise a PMR.

All the best
