Anyone have any recommendations on a best practice or design pattern for accessing remote system information. The scope of this is essentially Websphere MQ properties (qmgrs, queues, channels, version, etc), as well as the OS information (platform, version, memory, etc)
I know there are accessor methods in Java for local system properties, and I believe you can issue PCF commands in an MQ message to acquire some MQ information (but not mqver).
So those things are useful, but I would like other system relative information. I could develop an RPC driven application, but that seems somewhat bloated and requires handlers for the various platforms written often times in another language.
Ultimately I am looking to develop a WAS hosted, WSAD developed J2EE application that can communicate with remote, multiplatform systems to acquire relative system and Websphere MQ information/properties.
Has anyone completed a similar implementation and if so, how did you achieve it?
I realize there are products out there that provide some of this information, but we are looking for more customizeability that those products may not allow.
Please let me know if you have any thoughts or questions.
