Hi everyone,
We have a problem where our TEST Qm has run out of log file space.
Our developers were running a program to load MQ with a high volume of messages last night. Since then MQ has been issuing log file full messages every second in the error logs.
Now the part I don't understand is that we're using linear logging with lots of disk space available and 40 primary and 30 secondary logs.
I have confirmed with the developers that these messages are not transactional so there are no long running transactions keeping the active log space held open.
I know I can re-spec the logs or even recreate the QM to increase log file size but I don't see why that should be necessary.
Surely when MQ runs out of linear log files it should create more where there are no transactions.
The problem I have is that they want to do the same testing tomorrow night in production and I don't really want to be dealing with a poorly QM as our TEST qm is now (understandably) issuing FDCs all over the place..
Any advice gratefully received as ever!

OK just realised that the log voume is out of disk space doh!
No I understand why it ran out oif log space....
Unfortunately there is no space I can free up - so it will have to be a rebuild. |

A little bit late considering the time:
A rebuild is not always necessary....
You can check in the error log what are the logs needed (earliest between restart and image recovery) and archive / delete any log prior to that.
This should free up space.
40 primaries and 30 secondaries won't cut it. Max is 62 total.
I usually set my max to 50. So I get alerted early. Can possibly cut an image (rcdmqimg) and archive off old logs.... but had to go to 30 Gig (25 hours) of linear log space because of a non fully XA compliant transaction manager....

He didn't state his MQ version, but if it as at 6.0, the total number of primary and secondary log files must not exceed 255 on Windows, or 511 on UNIX systems, and must not be less than 3. _________________ Peter Potkay

Thanks for the clarification Peter. I guess I need to read up a little myself on 6.0.... |
