Wayne,
MO71 has the ability to back up QMs, automatically and regularly even. Same as MS03. But it also allows me to save z/OS and As/400 QMs. And somehow reads good ol' fashioned MS03 output as input for making changes / additions / deletions on z/OS and AS/400 via an MQClient connection from my Windows desktop.
Will the client version of MS03 one day be able to back up my mainframe and As/400 QM object definitions?

Welllllll....
(1) I've never tried, but the client version should be able to backup iSeries objects. (having said that, perhaps it doesn't, as there are several #ifdefs around the os/400 test, so maybe you wouldn't be able to play them back.... hmmmm....)
(2) I've never bothered with the zOS stuff for two reasons... until V6, no PCF, and zOS has always had CSQUTIL for making MQSC backups.
I assume Peter, that doing this would be helpful? _________________ -wayne |

I don't really need right now. We have daily batch jobs running CSQUTIL for the MF stuff. And I set up my MO71 to back up the MF QMs as well every day.
But it would be nice one day to have my one central MS03 script backup every single QM in the company, regardless of platform. _________________ Peter Potkay

When they're all v6, probably you can do this. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

My MF and AS/400 QMs are 5.3, my desktop is 5.3, and MO71 is backing them up. _________________ Peter Potkay

hi
we are running os v4r5 and mq v5r2, I have never backed up the qmanager, wanted to know what is MO71, I use mq explorer to monitor the queues and channel. Please let me know how to backup the qmanager on AS/400.

Hi wayne
Thanks for the reply but it looks like I can't use this, as the prerequisites is WebSphere MQ Version 5.3 or 6.0 but we are running v5r2. Is there any other alternative.

It should run on V5R2 (its just that I don't have a test env for that level of the qmgr). If it doesn't run, let me know what the problem is and we'll try to fix you up. _________________ -wayne |

Waye / All,
I thought PCF's could be issued on a 5.3 zos queue manager?
But first you need to make an alias for the SYSTEM.ADMIN.COMMAND.QUEUE pointing to the SYSTEM.COMMAND.INPUT
However I get the following PCF error:
> /usr/local/sbin/saveqmgr -m DQD0000 -r MQD1 -f MQD1.mqs -v 53
SAVEQMGR V6.0.1
Compiled for Websphere MQ V6.0 on Oct 3 2005
Requesting attributes of the queue manager...
Got bad PCF response message
Type = 1129533774
StrucLength = 842020169
Version = 538976323
Command = 1330990676
MsgSeqNumber = 1025515552
Control = 538976288
CompCode = 824975442
Reason = 1163154770
ParameterCount = 1312632880
Parameter Type= 1144336434
Processing Aborted, output file may be incomplete
So I guess I'll pursue CSQUTIL unless someone has a solution?
It would be nice to have this work as I'm trying to have all (Win, AIX and ZOS) saveqmgr's in one location. |

Sorry...only zOS V6 supports pcf commands

and you need v6.0.2 of saveqmgr for zOS support _________________ -wayne |
