We want to use a Java Webservice running within Oracle Containers for Java to connect to a queue manager on a remote box.

Can we use JMS to connect to the remote box or do we need a local WMQ client or queue manager?

If JMS cannot do this, what about the MQ/AQ adapter?

Does anyone have a link to a dummies guide on MQ/AQ?

You will, in order to connect to a WebSphere MQ queue manager as a client, need to install at a minimum the Java component of the WebSphere MQ Client.

If you require XA, you will need to either install a full MQServer on the Oracle box, or the Extended Transactional Client, or configure an AO/MQ gateway.
