Is there a way that I can terminate a process from an activity at the modelling stage using buildtime, ie terminate process and delete outstanding process items from users worklist. I know there is an API that can be used but I would like to know if I can do this at the process modelling stage

If I understand you correctly, you are looking for some "checkbox" or some such that you can tick to indicate you wish the instance to go away.

Not possible. You are correct in that this can be easily done via the API or via an XML message, but it would require that some code be written at the activity where the termination is necessary.
