I have been running 2 NT brokers for some time, with no problems connecting to DB2. I recently added an AIX broker, and now I appear to be running out of DB2 threads. The NT boxes and the AIX box all connect to DB2 V7.1 on z/OS, and this is where I am running out of threads.
Management is concerned about the cost of increasing the number. We recently increased it from 100 to 200, but expect to be running out again as we add new applications.
Should I be concerned about a large increase in this number ? For example, if I go from 200 to 1000, how will this affect the mainframe ?
Are there any other issues that I should be concerned about here ?
Thanks. |

Are you the z/OS DBA? If not, can you discuss the issue of DB threads with the z/OS DBA - to find out exactly how "expensive" each thread is?
One way you could reduce the number of threads you are using on z/OS is to use a local copy of DB2 on each machine for the Broker databases only. This is better for performance anyway.
If you're already doing that, then you can examine your message flows for how and where they use database access, and read and understand the documentation on how Broker allocates threads for message flows and execution groups and etc. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
