Beside “TSO PING” and “MQ PING”, does anyone have any other utilities or places to look in z/OS to see if MQ Channels are failing due to a firewall? My firewall admins are difficult to locate and convince it’s a firewall issue.

The system on one side or the other of the channel should log an error message when the channel fails to start, that indicates a TCP/IP error code.

That'll help you tell what the reason is.

A traceroute is the usual tool network guys/gals use to determine how far a packet got.

cicsprog,

Have you tried to telnet from the mainframe to the destination?
Did it work before and now has quit?

Does the mainframe use VIPA addresses? One thing to remember is that MQ will send out using the physical adapter address not the vipa address.

Issue a TSO NETSTAT CO and see what address the XXXCHIN address space is using.

A TSO NETSTAT HO will show you all the available IP address on that system.
