All,
After reviewing the IBM SWIFT message set, I notice that some elements have the same name, but different identifers. When I try to add elelments with the same name, I get the error message "Name is already in use. Please choose another name and try again".
I'm using WMQI 2.1, CSD04. Can someone explain what's going on?

Are the identfiers ones that are of the form a^b? If so this is something called a 'prefixed identifier', introduced in 2.1 to compensate for the MRM holding all elements as global - such elements are treated as if they are local. It's all expained in the Working with Messages book. |

Thanks Shanson! You are correct. By adding the ^ symbol to the Identifier, one can many elements with the same name.

If you use the prefixed identifier facility, please make sure that you do not misuse it. The facility is intended to help model local elements. The implication is that an element with a prefixed identifier should only ever be included in one compound type. As soon as you include it in a second compound type, its usage becomes (by definition) global. While this does actually work, it causes a glitch when you come to migrate to V5.
Before you append back, yes, the SWIFT message set from Dublin misuses prefixed identfiers in a couple of places. They have a corrected message set available for V5. |
