Hi Friends,
we just started migration to WBIMB V5. I have read in WBIMB documentation.....that we can take existing 2.1 Broker and run it in 5.0 as a 2.1 Broker. I have following questions in regards to that...
1) Anyone tried this ? any exp?
2)What are the limitations of running a 2.1 Broker in 5.0.
3)What will not work in that configuration.
4)Once you have a 2.1 Broker in 5, how do you then migrate it to use level 5 code.
5)What are the advantages of running level 5 code
6)What are the issues, if any, of migrating custom nodes.
7)What are the issues using the V5 Control Center with 2.1 brokers?
Thanks for your help in advance.... |

I think you are suffering from some misconceptions.
1. You don't run a V2.1 broker in a V5 broker, but you can run them together in the same enviroment. Meaning you don't have to migrate all your brokers at once.
2. The V5 configuration manager can issue commands to the V2.1 broker.
3. The new V5 capacities won't work on the version 2.1 broker.
4. You really get a much better interface to the command server with version 5. That is the first major difference. There are a whole bunch of minor changes and improvements. You can develop flows and sets without being connected to the Configuration Manager in version 5.
The custom nodes will most likely need to be changed, many of them have become redundent due to new features. If this is a third party node you may be able to just get a new version of it.
There are migration documents on this site and on IBM that tell you how. _________________ Patrick Goodhart

If you don't know alreday there is a Migration manual and Redbook that you can refer to for detailed info. _________________ Kiran

How have customer's in general reacted to this concept? We brought it up early on, explained how the data coming out would be the same whether it went thru a 2.1 Broker or a 5.0 Broker, and were still met with resistence. "If there is a problem, how do we know it is a 5.0 upgrade problem, or some other problem?"
So we are upgrading ALL (ok, so there is only 2) brokers at the same time. _________________ Peter Potkay
