Excuse the simple question. Being nwew to the monitoring tools I am trying to figure out what the value add of the major monitoring tools to the basic Tivoli for Business Integration product.
We already have Tivoli running and monitoring and I have been asked to look at and select some extra tools to go on top.
MQSoftware QPasa seems to be highly rated as does the Candle tools.
Any thoughts?? _________________ Keith Guttridge

What features is Tivoli missing, that you're looking for "extra tools to go on top"?
contact admin's Contact Admin suite is pretty cool. And it'll do everything that Tivoli does, and a lot more. Heck, it might even walk your dog! _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Well. From what I have read so far Tivoli will allow me to monitor and configure my MQ environemnt. I has capabilities to enable events and to configure MQ as well to some degree. I am unsure if it does statistic collections for throughputs and peak loads etc.
I don't know what the missing features are as I am unsure what the other products offer over and above monitoring and configuration.
I am assuming that they must offer more capability otherwise IBM wouldnt have bought Candle to add to the portfolio. From my understadning so far the Candle Omegamon tools have been very succesful as a high end tool. I have worked with several companies that use the tool. I have also been with companies that have used other tools and am hoping some can show what the value add is before i select and test which products we will move forward with. _________________ Keith Guttridge

not a comment in any way on Candle's MQ tools, but IBM did NOT buy Candle for it's MQ tools, that was an added bonus...
Main reason was Candle's systems management portfolio on the mainframe, which was a weakness in the Tivoli suite.
What IBM will do with the Candle's MQ specific expertise is not clear to me. I did some speculation a couple of months ago, only time will tell. _________________ Michael

but Tivoli did not used to be very user friendly. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Cheers for the link. I guess I should just get people from the respective companies to come pitch it at me. It will be interesting to see how many people IBM send. _________________ Keith Guttridge

And you can always tell them that you heard about their great products through mqseries.net, and wow it wouldn't have taken you so long to find them if they had perhaps sponsored the site _________________ Brandon Duncan
