Hi,
I'm using MQSeries 5.3 CSD 5 on windows 2000. I'm trying to connect remotely to another QM (REMOTE_QM) on a different windows 2k machine in the same domain. This is what i've done:
1) Created SYSTEM.ADMIN.SVRCONN channel definition on the REMOTE_QM
2) Command server is running, Listener is also running (on default port 1414) on remote qmgr.
3) set the MCA user for SYSTEM.ADMIN.SVRCONN as 'mqm' (Even tried with MUSER_MQADMIN)
4) On remote machine, added my user ID on the domain to the groups mqm and administrator (like user1@domain).
Problem is, when i tried to use "show remote Qmgr" from MQExplorer, i'm getting the following error:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Channel not defined remotely.
There is no definition of channel 'SYSTEM.ADMIN.SVRCONN' at the remote location.
Add an appropriate definition to the remote hosts list of defined channels and retry the operation.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can anyone help me out, what went wrong in my above definitions?
Also one more question, the MCA user in the SVRCONN channel, is it true that "MUSER_MQADMIN" should be used if it is windows machine, else "mqm" should be used??
Thanks alot
Prasad. |

'mqm' doesnt exist as a userid on Windows (and is a restriction that it cant - Windows cant have local userids and groups the same id, and a restriction in our OAM prevents the use of a Domain\mqm id).
Silly question, but are you sure the channel is defined as a svrconn, nor a receiver? Its also case sensitive...
I know it sounds like going over the obvious, but given the error message, its a great place to start!
MUSR_MQADMIN (NOT MUSER_MQADMIN) is the default id MQ installs to run under, but this can fail in an active directory domain. If you get that kind of problem, you need to follow the instructions in the quick beginnings guide to grant delegate authority to qmgr.
Finally, putting a mcauserid entitles ANYONE to remotely admin this qmgr. If these 2 machines are in the same domain, the best solution is to leave mcauserid empty, and come in as your userid. Put your userid in the "Domain mqm" domain group, and ensure Domain mqm is in the local mqm group on both machines. Note this is still not a secure solution (see other threads about java clients and security), in which case you need to look at security exits or SSL. |

Yeah, i define the channel as SVRCONN channel using following runmqsc command:
DEFINE CHANNEL('SYSTEM.ADMIN.SVRCONN') CHLTYPE(SVRCONN)
And now i kept the MCA userID blank in the remote svrconn channel and defined my domain/userID in both mqm and administrator groups of remote machine. But still same problem. |

Same error message (channel not defined?) - Are you sure its connecting to the right IP address, right port etc, right listener etc?
I know it doesnt help, but its got to be something basic |

ahhh, silly mistake. I didn't expected that another queue manager is also using the same port which I assigned to this REMOTE_QM. Assigned a new port number and worked perfectly !!!!!!!! Thanks Jason. |

I had the same problem and I made the same mistake. I created a new QM in addition to the default. There were two listeners but both on the same default port. The remote qmgr could not connect to the receive channel.
Thanks folks. Appreciate the help! _________________ A Perl Hacker
