Did you max out the number of connections to the queue manager? The default is 100 (max channel connections per queue manager).

From the prompt on the server with the queue manager, do something like:
Code:
netstat -an  #### | grep #### | wc -l

where #### is the port the queue manager is listening on i.e. 1414.

This command will return a number. i.e. 100 Hence, you will see if you have hit the max.

If you want to see where the connections are coming from then do:
Code:
netstat -an  #### | grep ####

Thanks. There are 28 connections but none for the server the java client or agent is running from. I am not sure where to go from here. The mq server is runing MQ 5.3.05 and AIX 5100-06 and so is the domino server.

Have you tried restarting the Domino Server?

It may be that, once the connection to the MQServer got broken for whatever reason, the connection can't be restored until you restart the server.

We restarted the Domino Server and ran ipcs. As there were not 'notes' sem's, domino was restarted and came up error free. there are no .FDC files on the mq server for date this problem occurred. also the logs on the MQ server have been over wrote by more recent information.

Well, the next thing to try is to see if you can make a standalone client connection from the Notes server.

You can either do this with amqsputc/amqsgetc or with the sample java programs.

In your case it might be better to try the sample java programs and see if they give you a 2009.
