If you had 10 QMs on 10 separate Windows servers, and the plan was to consolidate those 10 servers into VMware on one physical box, what would be better? 10 partitions, (or logical servers), each with its own QM, or 1 partition that had 10 QMs? Since all the partitions share the same physical CPUs, I wonder is there any benefit to putting 1 QM per partition versus all in one.

One thing I can think of is during upgrade time, you don't have to take all 10 QMs out at the same time if you have a 1 to 1 design.

I think the biggest thing you need to think about is channel traffic, in making this decision.

Putting all 10 queue managers on the same machine might mean changing the IP address of the listeners... which would mean changing the channel definitions of the rest of your environment as well.

In addition, more channels means more resources being used, and Windows is only finite in these kinds of things....

Plus there's fault separation to think about. Separate VMware images still gives you fault separation that putting all 10 queue managers on the same image doesn't. If something causes that server to crash, they're all down.
