| I am at a site where they want to put Trace nodes off of the catch terminals in production. I have recommended against it but they are deciding to do it anyway. Does anyone have any info (I couldnt find it in the manuals) as the the performance impact of having a Trace Node in a flow...particularly in production. |

How often do you expect messges to go down the Catch terminal?

Then there really isnt a performance concern. Any other reason you don't want it there?

I would much rather take an additional performance hit during error conditions than fail to have sufficient information to understand the error condition and how to fix or resolve it.
Consider the additional benefits of that performance hit - if it's happening a lot, you'll know about it BECAUSE of the performance penalty even if nothing else is being monitored.

How much performance hit can you afford? If you do some tests with and without Trace nodes in your message flows, you will not find significant difference in performance.

| I guess the bigger problem is that somehow, this aggregation flow was allowed to be put into production with only OUT terminals connected. This caused serious production problems and what is being done now to try and correct them is what should have been done in a dev environment. Therefore, this trace will prob be hit many times initially until other issues can be sorted out. |

Also take into consideration the trace file size....
you cannot deplete the trace file or rename them (for backups or stuff like that) at runtime.
You will need to stop the broker for that. |

My company had a problem with
WBIMB 5.0 Fix pack 2.
Be warned that if you have trace nodes in production with the above , it will eat up your memory(memory leaks). and cause the execution groups to abend and res-start, even if tracing is set to none. I was told that that this problem was solved with Fix pack 3. There is an article on the IBM website about trace nodes and memory leaks with Fix pack 2.
The problem was identified when we started doing stress tests and watched our syslogs......... |

| Do you have the link on the IBM website to that article? Currently they are still using V2.1 but we are in the process of migrating them to V5. |

You can backup and overwrite (clear) the file when the broker is running.
