Hi,

I am planning to have an MQ server at our Disaster Recovery site in case our production MQ goes down. In case of a disaster, I assume that I need to resynchronize the channels from my server at DR with our client MQ server. Now, is it possible to re-synchronize the channel's sequence numbers through a script without any intervention from our client?

Thank you all,

Sas

Dcide when you want the script to run, what channels it needs to hit, and script the RESET command in a runmqsc session (documented here:http://publibfp.boulder.ibm.com/epubs/html/csqzaj09/csqzaj09tfrm.htm) inside your script as it loops on all the channel names.

Do a search on script. Lots of good stuff here.

Although not cheap, you really should be looking at Hardware failover. Not only will it not have the problem of sequence #s, but all your persistent messages will also be brought over to the DR site as well. In your case as it stands, you are going to lose all your important messages.

Peter -
Hardware failover is only good for disaster recovery if the disaster you are trying to recover from didn't wipe out your entire computing center and all the hardware you had in it.

Most people don't think of "failover hardware at another site" when they think of hardware failover.

And a contract to maintain failover hardware at another location is *very* expensive. It's much cheaper to store backup tapes.

And kevinf2349 - he asked for hints. He didn't ask for a solution.

Thanks dudes!

We actually have our production server on a cluster (Microsoft Cluster Service) for hardware failover. We also have a another datacenter in case of disaster. However I need to find a manual solution to failover to DR as it gets pretty expensive to buy all the specialized software (e.g. DoubleTake)...
We just had 2 drives dying on a SQL database server (used by about 350 lawfirms) with a RAID 5 configuration and we had to switch to DR. Testing the DR every month was REALLY a saver cause I would have been looking for a job right now...

Anyways, thank you all.

hi,

Thanks for all the replies.

At this stage I know how to re-synch. the channels but how can I make sure that I do not lose any messages (I don't want to use microsoft clustering)?

Thanks
