1. why does a channel become inactive(both in a cluster and non-clustered environs).?
2. if the channel becomes inactive does it make sense to stop and restart(does it make sense to restart a channel in a clustered environs) the channel..? or do we have to delete the channel and recreate it..?
3. Any particular manual that concentrates in channel failures..?

1. Because no message have flowed for the DISCINT time.

2. No. (No). And No.

3. Intercommunications Manual. And a status of Inactive is NOT a failure.

Cheers,

Channels in an "inactive" status is normal if you have DISCINT set to anyting but 0. DISCINT = disconnect interval. The value is set in seconds so if DISCINT(60) the channel will go to an inactive state in one minute if there are not messages place on the transmit queue. A
DISCINT(0) value will tell the channel to never go inactive but it is not recommend to do it this way unless you suspect that the channel will always be in use.

You are better off setting up your XMIT Queue to Trigger the channel. For more information on Triggering see the WMQ Administration Guide.
