Hey everyone,
People have complained in the past about the fact that postings in the job related forums get stale. For instance, a company posts an opening and 6 months later the posting is still there even though the position was filled long ago.
So what I'm thinking of doing is setting up the "contact admin" feature which means that posts in those forums will automatically be deleted after a certain number of days. I'm thinking something large like 30 or 60 days. This means that only relatively recent postings will be visible.
Does anyone have any thoughts or objections about that? _________________ Brandon Duncan

That sounds good!
Also, it'd be a good idea to display a page to the user before he/she can posting any position in this forum. The page should list out certain guidelines for posting such requirement/position. One of the guideline would be to update the position status after its closed. _________________ Kiran

Another requirement would be contact information. It seems like it doesn't always make it! |

Well I've set it up to remove posts that haven't been replied to in 60 days, so hopefully this will make the contents of the two job forums more meaningful.
I'm going to try and set up some disclaimer page when you post in the job postings section which explains that this forum is only for job openings and they should follow particular guidelines... _________________ Brandon Duncan

Brandon, the idea seems good to remove the "no-longer" active posts in the jobs forum. But there is only one glitch that i see. Instead of removing the entire post, just mark it inactive or you mark it as "filled"(irrespective of whether it is or not, cz, if it isnt and you marked it as filled, the original poster would always come back and say NO it isnt) and *NOT* remove it completely.
The only reason for me to think that way is, people could go and check older posts as well and get in touch with those firms/headhunters/people even when they know that the original post made by them is *NO* longer valid. Gives more contacts for people looking for a new position.
In any case, i wouldnt think somebody looking for a new position would try considering themselves a candidate for a posting that is more than a month or so old.
Just my 2 cents.
Cheers

Kumar,
Unfortunately when I relied on companies/recruiters to come back and delete or modify their post to indicate that it was filled, basically nobody did this. So I realized I could rely on people coming back after the fact and noting this. And I guess I'm too lazy to write code to automatically do this for me. _________________ Brandon Duncan

Brandon,
My point is, there is *NO* apparent benefit deleting/expiring an old job post. But i *do* see a benefit if it is around. And which is, one could always go back to an old post, gather the contact info of the company/recuirter and get in touch with them. Irrespective of whether it relates to this current position or an older one.
Just IMHO. :)
Cheers
