I've searched the discussions and can't find anything related to this. I've also submitted a case to BMC, but thought maybe somebody here has come across the same problem. Here goes:
We have an HP-UX 11.11 server that has been set up to use shadow passwords in /etc/shadow. The password field in /etc/passwd is set to 'x' to indicate the REAL password is found in /etc/shadow.
Logins work fine, MQ installs fine, MQ runs fine, channels from other queue managers run fine. BUT we use two BMC Patrol products (Patrol for MQ Administrator and Patrol for MQ Operator) to configure and monitor our queue managers and neither one of those products will work with the /etc/shadow file in play. Both return error messages along the lines of "invalid userid/password".
We have *several* Sun servers using /etc/shadow for password authentication and both Patrol products work fine connecting to those servers. On the HP server I can copy the hashed password for mqm from /etc/shadow and paste it into the password field in /etc/passwd and everything works fine (but of course that defeats the security purposes of using /etc/shadow in the first place).
Any ideas what might be causing this failure to authenticate? Anybody else experienced this and found a way to fix it? All help will be appreciated.
