Is it necessary to have knowledge on MQ on OS390 and AS400 in order to pass the exam 294?
Thanks. |

You ought to know something. There will definitely be some questions on it. |

I've the same question, let me specify it more in detail.
I'm familar with MQSeries, but I never worked on OS/390 or AS400. Do I have a chance to pass this exam or is it a strong requirement ?
If there are a few questions about the behavior on this systems, p.e. restrictions or feature, it's not really a problem. But if I have to install MQ on one of this systems ore I have to configure it, there is no chance to pass it. _________________ Gunter Jeschawitz

it depends on how well you know the rest... (to compensate for the questions you don't know the answer to)
most questions I have seen do require some knowledge of the platforms in question,
not necesarily hands on experience, but closely studying the platform manuals (MQ) helps a lot to recogize the commands. _________________ Michael

I consider myself a distributed person with some knowledge of the OS/390 and 400. However, as Michael states, I've seen just enough of the other two to be able to answer some things about them. With this information, I was able to pass the test. |

If I recall correctly there were no question relating to the actual installation process on OS/390. Installation on OS/390 is done by SMP/E and that is a whole new nest of vipers!
There may be a question or two about Qmgr specific settings etc rather than the installation settings. Remember that on z/OS(OS/390) it is more likely than not that sites have their own installation standards so installation questions would be more or less worthless.
Concentrate on the 'restrictions' and differences for all platforms and you should be good to go. |
