Hello forum-

I'm kind of confused between Message Persistence & Message Expiration time. Can somebody please elaborate on the same.

I also have following questions -
1) When I make a message Persistence, does it automatically have Infinite Expiration time.
2) If the answer to above question is no, then how do I set an expiration time on the Persistent message.

Thank you.

Message Persistence (MQMD.Persistence) and Message Expiry (MQMD.Expiry) are different properties of the messages.

IF a message is flagged as Persistent, then it get's logged into log file by the queue manager. You can set this property by assigning appropriate value/constant (MQPER_NOT_PERSISTENT, MQPER_PERSISTENT or MQPER_PERSISTENCE_AS_Q_DEF) to this field.

Messages can be marked for expiry by setting Expiry time (in tenths of a second) in MQMD.Expiry field. The message becomes eligible to be discarded if it has not been removed from the destiantion queue before this period of time elapses.

No. As I said earlier, these are two different properties.

Set your MQMD.Expiry to any number.

I aslo recommend following reading material, which will shed more light on these
