Hi Folks,
Does anybody know of any major changes in the Java API from 5.0 to 5.3 that might cause a problem using the 5.3 Client with a 5.0 queue manager?
Thanks,
Rich |

I would have expected a 5.3 client to talk with a 5.0 server transparently, and would expect this to be a defect if it doesnt (unless there is extremely good reason). What problem are you seeing? |

Hi Jason,
Thanks for that. It is pretty much what I expected.
The situation is that we have an application written by someone else - no access to the source - which we know works with 5.2 and 5.3. We have to get this application to work with 5.0 for someone else, so our thought is to use the 5.3 Client to talk to a 5.0 queue manager.
I don't predict any problems, but I am just trying to pre-empt.
Thanks again for your help/confirmation.
Regards,
Rich. |

The clients 'negotiate' at startup, so in one case your client will say 'I'm 5.3 and I support xxx,yyy and zzz' and the other end will come back and say 'I dont support yyy'. Eventually the ends will agree and all should be fine (famous last words...). You just wont be able to use any feature added since the 5.0 api! |
