Our Solaris admin has asked for scripts to automatically shutdown & startup our queue managers, listeners, message brokers and monitoring software. He wants to be able to boot the machine without our involvement.
I am accustomed to watching the shutdowns and startups so we can confirm they happen without error. Sometimes we have to kill things manually, look at error logs, etc.
Do others use scripts for automated shutdowns and startups in Unix? Your thoughts and recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks. |

Yes, we uses scripts to shut, down, start all MQ Objects in the UNIX environment. We dont have any proble with the scrips. I guess most of the people use scripts.
Why do you think using Scripts is a problem???
Thanks

I guess I was apprehensive because we have had some trouble in shutting down qpasa (monitoring software); it errors out and then we have to kill things manually. Then we had one bad event where a message broker would not restart properly (eventually had to re-create it on IBM's advice). But other than that, the MQ-related software has stopped and started reliably.
Did you develop these scripts yourself? (I didn't see any supportpacs for this purpose.) May I ask some questions about your scripts, please?
Do you stop the channels before you end the queue manager? Do the scripts pause and wait for a success message before continuing to the next step? If you have multiple brokers and queue managers on the machine, is it broker/qmgr in its own script or are they all in one script? Have you had the need to do any error handling in the scripts?
Thank you so much for your reply. |

SAFraser,
What is the problem with the stopping of qpasa agent? Here is a lot of installed qp agent on different unix platforms (solaris, aix, linux., hp-ux, tru64) so maybe I can help you.
