Currently on our production system the fmcsyslog is 16085285(16MB). Does this cause problems? if so how to clear the log or how to take a back up? or what are the alternatives we have

I would think that you should copy the file and start with a new one.

Have you ever purged the Tables? Have a look thru the Admin utility and see how much is out there.
