What do you mean by "status"?

There are two DISPLAY commands for chl and ql:

dis chs(xyz...) all

will show the status of all channel instances (MCAs) vo ra given channel object

dis qs(qwe...) type(handle) all

will show the handle properties, such as PID etc ...

If you want to know the return code, just issue command mqrc <reason code>, that will give you the reason. For corrective action, you can look up the info center, or the Messages guide, or download the supportpac that does reason code helper.
That support pac basically runs a search against the messages and codes (amqzao04.pdf - WebSphere MQ Messages) guide, and return the corrective action.

Not 100% what you are after, but useful anyway:

If you have an MQ reason code, you can run (on distributed) - MQRC 2033 to have it list out what its literal is (and then you have to look it up to see what it means). Similarly given a message nunber (eg. 9001) you can run mqrc -m 9001 or mqrc amq9001
