Hello,
Can anyone tell me from personal experience how questions on 297 test relate to those in sample test on IBM's site? Is the area covered by the questions similar?

The sample test wouldn't be a very good sample if the questions covered completely different topics. 
If you can pass the sample test, you can pass the actual test I think.
Just don't sweat any particular question on the sample.

Well, I've squeaked through the sample test, but was surprised at a relatively large number of questions regarding clustering.
