Philip Morten's explanation did not elaborate on this, but some exits run in the application's address space (i.e. API exit). If you have a 64 bit Windows application, then MQ needs a location to reference the 64-bit API exit for your application to use. What actually references the exit would probably be the MQ stub code that is linked into your 64-bit application. That would be my thinking, at least.
