Jeff, we do have HA/CMP now but I would prefer to use an integrated MQ feature if possible.

Yes, okay.

So, you can. You just steal the script that you have under HACMP to move the virtual IP address from one box to another, and you adjust that to use sudo if necessary and then you configure it as an MQ Service object that gets run at qm startup.

For those who haven't got hardware HA, MI would still be better if it could be operated as I suggested - why are you opposed to that?

I am morally and technically opposed to imposing DNS wait times on any sort of high availability solution. Other than that, I'm fine with what you're talking about.

Does this script for VIP movement really exist? I don't know much about the internals of HA/CMP.

However the MQ listener will bind to the IP address(es) available at start up so I don't see how running a service command after start up will help. I suppose the VIP script could stop and start the listener.

I suspect the VIP address must operate on the same network segment as the two hosts that might acquire it?

Food for thought certainly. An example from IBM would still be welcome.

thanks jef and zpat,

Through your discussions lot of information was understable, finally my organsiation is implementing high availbility cluster at os level MSCS , as per my understanding there would be floating ip address used , and is it feasible while creating Qmanager itself cereate resources on a local drive, and then migrate the log files and data files to a shared disk.

MSCS clustering is the Windows version of HA/CMP, if you like.

The IP address will fail over along with the shared disks. So these IP address change issues will not be a problem.

MI is not using the same disk sharing technique as MSCS. MI uses NFS v4 and is an alternate approach to true clustering.

However some of MI enhancements make HA/CMP or MSCS set up easier - not sure this aspect is particularly well documented by IBM though.
