We have done some further testing and it turns out that the message format is set to MQRFH2 in MQ 6 regardless if there are properties in the message or not.
Sorry, we mixed up the test files. When there are no properties set, the message format is as expected.
We are only using queues in this case but we will be doing put sub later on so it was good information to know that we can expect the MQRFH2 header in that case.
