I'm glad it's now working for you. Sorry about the typo in the MO71 manual. I see I got it right in most places but had the wrong name in one of them. I've updated the manual so the next release should be fixed.

Cheers,
P.

That is the appropriate caveat 'working for me'!

As it was always working (properly). This is the first time I have
used the supportpac Paul and regret that I did not look at it sooner.

I was just reflecting what a useful/good tool it is. It is very comprehensive with topology view, web interface, pub/sub ... I like its clean down to business interface better than MQ Explorer ... not a lot of clicks to get to the heart of the matter ... Kudos for your effort !!!!

But then I read its heritage as being a tool created for the ???? Olympic Games in Atlanta ... and it made sense.
I was asked by Rob Drew as were other MQ people at IBM back then to help support
that effort ... I reqret now I did not volunteer.

Again thanks much for this supportpac and keeping it up to date ..

Mo71 ... can't separate two sets of QMGRS for display in network view.

3 QMGRS in dev1 A,B,C given dev1 network and also in same grp dev1

3 QMGRS in test1 A,B,C given test1 network and also in same grp test1

Can't ever get anything but dev1 QMGRs to show up in network diagram,

Each QMGR has different location=machine name as well.

Any tips on what I might be doing wrong?

Difficult to tell from what you've said.
Are you certain you have all 'Network Names' checked ?
If you like you can send me you mqmon.cfg and mqmon.dfn and I'll see
why they are not displaying.

Cheers,
Paul.

Actually, now that I read it again when you say A,B,C are these the real
names. In other words have you got more than one location with the
same Queue Manager name ?

Personally I never think this is a good idea. Having a test and production
Queue Manager with the same name is, in my opinion, risky. It only takes
a stray channel definition and all your test data gets sent to the real
production queue managers.

Anyway, MO71 tries, whereever possible, to cope reasonably with two
Queue Managers with the same name. It 'assumes' that two entries are
really just two ways of getting to the same Queue Manager. In the
Network view is only shows one of them....the primary (which I think is the last one you connected to or some such).

If you really need the same Queue Manager names then I think the
only way is to run two instances of MO71 - one test and one production.
To be honest this is also safer I would have thought.

Cheers,
P.

Yes I thought it might be something like that ... I do have same QMGR names for different locations ... I understand ... just a channel conname difference and we are talking to wrong qmgrs.

But build restaints want no changes if possible from one env to next .. but IPs ... anyway starting more than one mo71 one for dev and one for test is that just creating new dir for configs and start it.

Also ... I have not used the new ms0t yet ... would you rate your tool m071 as more useful for monitoring purposes than that. Any pluses/minuses you could offer would be much appreciated.

I like it and need tools to monitor/admin MQ6 mq brokers pub/sub.

One last last question can I use the Subscriber List function on a QM and selecting the SYSTEM.BROKER.DEFAULT.STREAM 'Register' a subscription for Topic ... in lieu of an application doing it ... so that publications when sent will we collected at the target subscription queue specified?

I thought that reading and the pub sub manual you had retained a little bit more in memory...
AFAIK the SYSTEM.BROKER.DEFAULT.STREAM is for publishing and the SYSTEM.BROKER.CONTROL.QUEUE is the one used for registering a subscription...

I'm afraid it's not really for me to say whether one tool is better than another or not. Generally speaking it is often down to personal preference; some people like MO71 because it allows you to create a window for each thing you're interested in all at the same time, other people don't like it for exactly the same reason

As far as creating subscriptions, yes, in MO71 you can create a subscription and target then messages at a queue for another application to pick up.

Cheers,
P.

True, I had the wrong queue but the right question ... which Paul answered, I can do the subscription ... (maybe ??)

The drop down had a list of queues and I knew the system.broker.admin.stream was not the queue I wanted and chose the other option (which as you note was also incorrect) I am assuming I can type in the appropriate queue name ... s.b.CONTROL.q as you note. I haven't tried Registering a subscription with the tool but with P.'s comments I will give it a try.

I do need to fully read the Pub/Sub manual, however, time is the only limiting commodity.

I might have guessed ... trying to create a subscription record with the tool is not straight forward or apparent at this juncture. Using the Subscription list menu option and then double clicking on a subscription record/message ... I tried to mimic the subscription on a new set of Broker/QMGRS that did not have that subscription.

Kept getting odd message invalid queue in Topic field, tried all kinds of permutations ... and now appear to have boloxed up Broker so I can't even get a Subscription List on them ...

Any Doco in the manual for an example on how to use the tool to create a Subscription? I will look closer but did not see such in readings so far.

Any examples on how to use the mo71 tool to do a subscription.

There is an action option for Put and Publish, but no subscription.

There is Pulisher List and Subscriber List Option for a QMGR
with Deregister Buttons on each

And when one double click a Subscription list item one gets
'Register' and 'Deregister' buttons for that item

This is what lead me to believe that one could 'Register a Subscription' just by typing in the template fields appropriately.
The operative word here apparently being 'appropriately'. Some of the fields are display only.
Others are expecting values that are not clear at least to me at this time.
Looking for sample/documentation on how to do this
(i.e. a Subscription with the mo71 tool)
Any example/tips/help appreciated.

Continuing to read manuals.

Hi,

I assume you're using MQ V6. MQ V7 has very significantly enhanced Pub/Sub in MQ so that it's much more tighly integrated with the product.

If you're using MQ V6 then you should read read the Publish/Subscriber guide at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wmqv6/v6r0/index.jsp

This will tell you how you can 'register' a subscription and what the various fields and options mean. I have not duplicated all this information in the MO71 manuals because it is already documented in the external supported manuals.

Cheers,
P.

Yes MQ v6 as mentioned earlier ... Ok I was reading the mo71 doco and did not see how.

I will switch to the V6 manual for Pub/Sub ...

Do I have the correct mechanics in mo71 by which to do that ...
namely:
1.) Do a Subscriber List ... for a QMGR/Broker
2.) select an item and double click on it, giving template with 'Register' button
3.)Fill in 'appropriately' fields on this screen and hit 'Register' button ??

I just need to get the 'appropriately' fields understood ??
Or is there a different way to use the mo71 tool to do a Subscription ?(Looks like there is see next post)
Apparently, not doing it correctly can have very serious impact on the Broker topology/funtionality (i.e. one can kill it)

Ah! There appears to be a 'new' option on mouse button 2 Pop-up Menu for a subscriber list.

This looks more promising. I will get my subscriber options squared away and see what this does for me.
