IHMO that's not an optimal solution, as it can cause problems if (when!) the network has issues....

As always jefflowrey has made the valid point (Hail the PooBah!). dkoushik application should start if the channel is up, down or sliding sideways. Having got the chanel into a triggered state, the correct course of action is to investigate what's up with the app.

Probably in a new thread.

Nowadays networks do not have issues - but then the channel goes into RETRY mode and should start again (sometime).

But you are right, it is not a good solution, when applications rely on running channel. MQ acts asynchronous and the application should (and could) trust MQ.

dkoushik, you wrote, that the channel never come up when you make a fail-over. When you have shared volumes and take over the log and
qmgr volumes, the channel must start (when the were active before) - even when it is not triggered. The channel states are stored in a queue (and I guess in the logs too) and will be recreated after restart.

A cluster fail-over works in the same way as a normal stop and restart of a QMgr - except the data is mounted on another hardware.

dkoushik, how did you set-up your MS cluster?

- Do you have shared volumes with the log and qmgr files?
- Do you take-over the volumes?
- Do you take-over the IP address?

On the receiver end enshure that the TCP/IP setting allow ADOPT MCA.

This wil allow the sender channel to be restarted even if the receiver for some reason haven't sensed that the sender has died.
This can in many cases prevent the SENDER channel from going into RETRY, because the RECEIVER think it has a connection. (also be fore HBINT and keepalive expires).

There are a supportPac(MD0C) explaing how to keep the channels running http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg24006699&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en
