Hi all,
I have been reading some of the comments on WBIMB version 5. I am challenged with putting together a paper that lists all the resons we should move forward from WMQI 2.1 CSD5 to the new version.
So far based on what I have read, the major changes are to the control center. Everything as we know it is changed. This will require retraining for MQSupport as well as WMQI developers. I have heard that the editor in the new version is more like a true editor with search and replace functionality. Can anyone confirm? Also, the debugger works better? You can actually walk through your ESQL code? We have also had inquiries about webservices support. I had heard that there will be http nodes in this new version that will allow web access directly into wmqi?
How about performance? Has this been enhanced?
I would appreciate any comments folks who have had experience with the new version can offer as well as those folks in the same situation as us. Thanks!

I think the answer to that question is: yes as in the end you have no choice!
With the announcement of V5, V2.1 can be considered a dead end, although it will be supported for a while (currently end of 2004)
a better question would be: is it already 'save' to upgrade... ?
That thread is going on in:

Hi Michael,
That too! We know we have to upgrade eventually, but the question is sooner or later? 3rd quarter or 4th quarter or wait until we absolutely have to? What advantages will I get by going sooner? Or as you have mentioned, is it not service ready? Do all the new features work as designed? Thanks and I will check out the other thread.

One of the main reasons driving us to upgrade earlier rather than later is the new ODBC authentication. In v5, you can provide different authentications for each message flow, rather than a single authentication for all database access. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Features that interest us include:
Web services support.
Better source and release management.
Re-use of ESQL code with "external" functions etc.
Better development environment (editing source etc). |
