Will enabling ssl on a channel increase the data size being transferred? If so by how much approx? We are constrained to bandwidth usage. |

My understanding is that the majority of extra bandwidth will be incurred in the initial SSL handshake. So, provided your channel stays up a reasonable amount of time and sends a decent amount of message data I should not expect there to be too much difference. If you are starting and stopping your channels for every message (and those messages are fairly small) then the difference could be significant.
Having said all that with a question like this I would always suggest you try it. Why not just set up a simple test environment, configured just how you like your channels, send a typical message throughput through your channels and actually measure the difference? Then you know exactly the extent of the issue in your particular environment.
However, as I said, if I had to guess, for a typical user of MQ Channels I would expect the bandwidth impact to be low.
By the way, if your main constraint is bandwidth are you using the message and header compression options on the channel definition ?
Cheers,
Paul. _________________ Paul Clarke
