About a week ago I found that disk space was increasing on 2 of my Production MQ servers, so delving into it further I found that the MS62 script (cleanmqlogs.pl ) running under Autosys was failing.
When I ran it manually (after doing an rcdmqimg) the script asked whether it could overwrite the previous cleardowns last .gz file, after I answered yes the script then gzipped the rest of the files. But that leaves me the problem of how to run this as a scheduled job.
The log of the job looks like this.
About to gzip LNPBISWI.QM's S0021345.LOG
About to gzip LNPBISWI.QM's S0021346.LOG
About to gzip LNPBISWI.QM's S0021347.LOG
cleanmqlogs.pl: LNPBISWI.QM: Needed for Media Recovery: S0021420.LOG
cleanmqlogs.pl: LNPBISWI.QM: Needed for Qmgr Restart: S0021420.LOG
cleanmqlogs.pl: LNPBISWI.QM: latest = latest4restart
About to gzip LNPBISWI.QM's S0021347.LOG
cleanmqlogs.pl: LNPBISWI.QM: Needed for Media Recovery: S0021420.LOG
cleanmqlogs.pl: LNPBISWI.QM: Needed for Qmgr Restart: S0021420.LOG
cleanmqlogs.pl: LNPBISWI.QM: latest = latest4restart
About to gzip LNPBISWI.QM's S0021347.LOG
cleanmqlogs.pl: LNPBISWI.QM: Needed for Media Recovery: S0021466.LOG
cleanmqlogs.pl: LNPBISWI.QM: Needed for Qmgr Restart: S0021466.LOG
cleanmqlogs.pl: LNPBISWI.QM: latest = latest4restart
About to gzip LNPBISWI.QM's S0021347.LOG
cleanmqlogs.pl: LNPBISWI.QM: Needed for Media Recovery: S0021539.LOG
cleanmqlogs.pl: LNPBISWI.QM: Needed for Qmgr Restart: S0021538.LOG
cleanmqlogs.pl: LNPBISWI.QM: latest = latest4restart
About to gzip LNPBISWI.QM's S0021466.LOG
About to gzip LNPBISWI.QM's S0021467.LOG
So the script has already gzipped S0021347.LOG but starts the next session trying to gzip it again, even though it doesnt exist. It is S0021347.LOG.gz now.
The problem seemed to start on April 1st on both servers, there havent been any changes on the servers as far as I know, and the scripts have been working for years prior to that.
I would be grateful for any advice or help you could offer.

Make sure you move any zipped / gzipped logs to a different directory. This way they cannot show up in a list of files scanned by the support pack... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

After the rcdmqimg, you are told which file is need for restart and recovery. Any file of a lower number than the lowest of those two are no longer needed as the Qmgr will never reference them again.
Why would you gzip them (or keep them)? |

Very good point! But that's what the SupportPac does as default. So I guess I could do a cleanmqlogs.pl -u QMGR and that would delete all the old files rather than keeping the gzip versions of them, which as you say, we have no need for!
I wonder why it started going wrong last week though, after all those years of running OK?
