What do people feel is best-practice in naming broker objects, such as message flows? All upper case, all lower, or mixed?

Typically I see all upper case, but when asked to justify this, I was surprised at the lack of information for or against. I could not find anything in the manuals, or Redbooks or searching this forum.

With MQ there is the z/OS factor which forces object names to upper case, even if they are lower or mixed case. So for MQ there is a justification. But broker is a different animal and I am not sure if the same auto-capitalisation happens to broker object names.

Same thing happens for WMB on z/OS.

IMHO I feel it's better to use upper case. Most sites say "MQ" when they mean broker, the queue manager and all the associated parts. So it's easier to say "all MQ is upper case".

I'm not aware of any IBM recommendations on broker naming standards.

Here is the link which will answer your question(Considering esql too as one of the WMB object):

Thanks for this link. It states that mixed case should be used for ESQL file names. From section 2:

"ESQL filenames should consist of mixed-case alphabetic characters, with the first letter of each word and all acronyms in uppercase. For example: IBMExample.esql. "

Do companies generally follow this guideline? I notice that the above article was only published in 2008 - but many companies have been using Broker since way before then. Also, of course, this just talks about ESQL file names. What about MsgFlows, Execution Groups, messageSets etc.

I would keep the queue manager and broker name upper case (and in fact you can use the same value).

Execution groups - maybe upper case again, but items inside bar files do not really matter so much to operations.
