Hi,
If you have local config manager, Only you are in charge for administering the brokers you reference irrespective of whether the broker is in remote or local. Others(using their config managers) cant touch the brokers which has been referenced by your local config manager.
In case of remote config manager, Anone can connect to that config manager and administer the brokers available inside it. (In case you havent taken extra steps to set permission on config managers like setmqaut on queue manager, etc).
This you have to choose entirely based on your development environment, like whether you are the only developer who will be having exclusive access to the broker(local or remote) or you want to allow other developers also to access the broker in which you are working.
Thanks,
Venkatesh |

I suspect the OP was refering to the confing manager being local / remote to the broker, not your machine.
your advice seems well off the mark and in some cases just wrong.....

surely this is just a remote config mgr for others to connect to?
Another gem of a post. |

For a true dev environment (ie on a server somewhere) i'd be inclined to put the config manager and broker on the same server but probably with different QMs as in other environments that I have the QM and broker tend to have their own QMs. Your mileage may vary however. |

You are technically correct, But why does a developer has to connect to another developers local config manager without any reason unless he has intentions to abuse? Also that a developers firewall in his machine may prevent that kind of access..
The setup I described is that a local midrange server has been setup in the dev environment exclusively for brokers and all the developers can access those brokers using their local config manager which reduces load in the respective developers machines and at the same time provide exclusive access to the broker.. This is just a design I assumed.

If this is the case my answer is invalid. I apologise. I took the keyword "development" and thought that way

And if you had stated these assumptions maybe I would have been able to understand your response a bit better and so would not have been so harsh on you! |
