Hi Experts,

Any one please let me know how we can take full BAckup of MQSeries Environment in Solaris 10.

We have TSM for the database backup but I have no idea about generating the scripts for the system backup or media backup. I tried to find the support packs but can't find it

Thanks for the Help,
Raj

First, stop the queue manager.

Then take a normal file system backup of the queue manager file systems.

Thanks for the reply.

I need to know what you have to backup to make sure that You get all the data back. after performing the recovery.

We have Linear Queue manager.

Can we perform a automatic backup at every 8 hour using TSM? And if yes can you please provide me the steps to do it?

thanks..

Please read the MQ System Administrator Guide. It details all this.

What are you going to do with that backup? Its a point in time. If you use it to restore you will reintroduce messages that were on the queues at the time of backup that have already been consumed (can your apps handle duplicate messages??) and you will be missing all the messages that were in your queues right before the restore happened(can your applications handle missing messages??)

Thank you so much for the reply...

I think you are right.

So basically we just do it when we create the queue manager?

and then after how much time we should back up the objects? Or we don't ever do the backup for the objects?...

Can you please tell me wht to backup periodically and how to do it automatically?...

Thanks you are the real master...

Are you trying to backup the mq objects? If so, use the saveqmgr and backup as needed, or set something up to run it on a schedule. Where I am at currently, we do the backup of the system objects when changes are made and let the files sit on the server and in a database. I lean more towards a backup of at least once a week though, makes me more comfortable.

You will need to download it from the SupportPac site, (it's SupportPac MS03), unpack the tar.Z file and then execute saveqmgr.solaris

You can find a lot more useful information in the read.me that comes with ms03.
