Hello,

I apologize for asking a question without doing my homework first, but I was hoping to save some time from your good experiences.

We need to implement a monitoring solution in our MQ environment. We have no monitoring of any kind in place.

Could someone please suggest some tools that can monitor queue managers, queue depths, connections and queue manager/application log files.

I know QPasa and BMC Patrol can do a lot of these things. How do I evaluate these tools or others that you might suggest against my requirements?

Thanks a bunch

Forgot to mention that I need a monitoring solution that will work on windows and linux environments.

If AS400 monitoring is supported, that will be a bonus.

There are also products from IBM (Tivoli Omegamon XE for Messaging), contact admin, CA. Most other vendors of "enterprise wide" monitoring tools probably have components that talk to MQ. The previous list is just the ones I know off the top of my head.

You can't really evaluate them without doing your homework... They all pretty much monitor the same things - because they all pretty much make use of the same metrics that MQ provides.

You basically need to figure out WHAT you need to monitor, and WHY. Then you can look at the tools at least enough to figure out if one of them CAN'T do what you want.

Then you'll probably need/want to talk to the product sales people to get an opportunity to work with the product - to see if you like or dislike how it works.
