Hi,

I am woriking on MQ v5.3 with with CSD 10, on Solaris. I deployed a new version of channel exit (its a C program)on both inbound and outbound channels. Now when I am doing the testing with bulk of messages, its causing creation of large number of active log files. On further investigation I found that the "scratch" folder of the queue manager is getting number of files piling up. Which is causing space issue under /var/mqm. I have to stop the testing otherwise it will bring the other queue managers down.

One more thing, the same queue manager was working fine with old channel exit.

Can the new channel exit may be responsible for the creation of log files?

Regards,
Sumit Sharma

[Sarcasm] Absolutely not, no way, what on earth makes you suspect that it is? [/sarcasm]

Given that the old exit worked, and that you only started getting this with the new exit, and assuming nothing else changed I would say that the new exit needs investigating.

Yes its fine, and we are investigating the code of new channel exit. But still the doubt is there.. what makes the creation of number active log files which was making problem with available space. Was that system was reaching sync point too fast? Off-loading is working fine as we do not have issues with other queue manager on the same server...

log buffer was also available... what can be other reasons for creation of active logs? I checked all on info center but nothing gave me correct conclusion.

Hi!

The number and size of active logs files are "hardcoded" in your *.ini file..
Could this channel exit of yours affect the number or the size of active logs, not that i know.....Hey but still im a just a newbie..

Its true that it is hardcoded. But the creation of active logs depend on the write threshold, log buffer's capacity and commit point.

And my question is still there, which of the above is been activated by a channel exit that is causing creation of numbers of active logs?

Are these circular or linear logs?

If circular, then you probably have a long running unit of work.....

Yes, I am using circular logs. We are experiencing this problem particularly with big messages like 8 MB. There is a time delay too in sending these messages to destination queue manager. May be it is increasing the unit of work. And also there are number of batch messages are also passing to check the load handling capability of the channel exit.

Question -what does this channel exit do? Functional and/or business purpose? Security checking? Auditing? What?

Also what is the change between the old & new versions? Is there actually a change or is it a recompile to pick up a new version of a non-MQ library or similar?

There was some problem with the old exit code and it was causing memory leaks and also we encountered channel termination issue. The code is has rectified these all problems but still have some issues with it. So, I can say that it is a new code.

We are using channel exit just to get a copy of the original message and doing small modifications in the header part.
