Hi,
Looking for some insight on feasibility for the following scenario
I have been asked to look into implementing clustering. Bascially, we have two messages broker queue managers running hot/hot and a third queue manager which would run hot/cold. Veritas clustering would be used.
Is it possible to cluster the two message broker queue managers along with the third queue manager which would be clustred via veritas? This queue manager would be shared between the hot/standy servers. Veritas tasks would be defined to stop/start MQ in the event of failover, etc.
Are there any implications with this approach?
Is there a better approach by creating seperate queue managers on each of the hot/standy servers?
Thanks in advance |

You need to consider Veritas clustering completely separately from MQ clustering. They do different things, and are not affected by each other at all.
The only difference between a hot/hot and a hot/cold scenario in Veritas or other hardware clustering is that something is already running on the "cold" box in a hot/hot scenario. That is, in your case you have three hot/cold setups. It's just that the cold part of two of those setups is also the hot part of another. A->B, B->A, C->D.
Again, this doesn't affect MQ clustering at all. You can cluster A, B and C qmgrs and not even know if any of them are in a hardware cluster.
Your scenario is feasible. It's fairly common.
You need to make sure that the machines that host the Hot/Hot setup are capable of running both sets of services at full capacity. This usually means you want them to be about two and a half times as big as they need to be for one set. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
