This is written on this page http://www-306.ibm.com/fcgi-bin/common/ssi/ssialias?infotype=an&subtype=ca&htmlfid=897/ENUS205-206 :

The Message Brokers Toolkit included with the Program includes a copy of IBM Rational Application Developer (RAD) and IBM WebSphere Eclipse Platform Components.

We are using WSAD 5.1.2 and we plan to use RAD 6.
Do I need to install one RAD and one WMB Toolkit ?
Is it possible to have only one RAD (with everything), so how ?
Thx
SB

The Message Broker Toolkit is a superset of Rational Application Developer. Just install MBT and you'll have RAD available to you too.
You cannot coexist multiple copies of RAD on the same machine.

I don't think WMBT comes with all of the test environments and supplemental software that RAD does - like the Portal test server or Crystal Reports or etc. So it's not a strict superset - I think.

I think it would be better to install RAD first with all the features one needs, install WMBT on top of it, and then fixpack everything.

This assumes one is licensed for RAD as well as for WMBT - and have need of the additional features.

I think I will follow this way :

1/ install RAD with all features needed
2/ fixpack for RAD
3/ install WMBT on top of RAD
4/ fixpack for WMBT

How install WMBT on top of RAD ?
When applying new fp for wmbt, what are impacts on RAD ?

I would install both and then fixpack both.

Unless the two installers are at different fixpack levels. Then I would install the one with the lower fixpack first, and then fixpack it to the same level as the installer of the other, install the other, and then fixpack both to the current level.

Note 1 :
This technote details an issue with installing RAD with WMB that could
help you :
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?fdoc=aimwmq&rs=849&uid=swg21223268

Note 2 :
RAD and WMB are two separate products.
Due to the problem described in the technote I sent you before, you
cannot install WMB with any version of RAD on the same machine, as they will share components to save some place.

So the procedure is:
- Install RAD 6 and update it to version 6.0.1.1 with the Rational
Product
Update (Start it, search of updates, and install them)
- Install WMB and update it with the fix at:
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg24011391

Note 3 :
1. Pls install the RAD first.
2. Only the MB toolkit version 6.0.0.1 can be installed on to of it:
The RAD is NOT included in the MB Toolkit product. The MB Toolkit is a
special subset of the RAD but can only be use in following order : Please download MB Toolkit V6001 software or request this from your IBM
rep. This has 5 disks or 5 zip files, while the MB Toolkit V60 is
shipped on 4 disks/zip files. This will allow you to shell share with
RAD/RSA V6011 level. Note that when you install, MB Toolkit V6001 on a
machine which has RAD/RSA V6011, the default installation directory
will be automatically selected as RAD/RSA install directory. We recommend you not change this default, for effective shell sharing, and for subsequent Toolkit maintenance upgrades (using RPU) to work seamlessly.
3. You can also install MB V6.0 for both products (needs to be installed
first)
