A while back I built a cluster of three queue managers - 2 full repositories and 1 partial repo. Each queue manager resides on its own WinTel server. The messages delivered to these queue managers are from remote queue manager members that all reside on UNIX boxes essentially (I don't know if the WinTel/UNIX distinction is germane to my problem, but I thought I'd throw it in for completeness sake).

About six months after the cluster went live, the #3 WinTel queue manager (the partial repo) started experiencing problems when trying to connect to REMOTE queues specified in the messages from queue managers residing on the UNIX boxes (in the ReplyToQueue property). The message "MQRC_UNKNOWN_OBJECT_NAME" would be generated when it sometimes tried to connect to these remote queues. Usually, manual execution of REFRESH CLUSTER or Refresh Cluster Information command(s) would take care of the problem. However, the problem kept occurring with some frequency.

Our next experiment was to make this WinTel partial repo queue manager a full repository itself. So we now had 3 full repository queue managers on the three WinTel boxes. This may have helped some, but the problem didn't go away completely.

The next experiment was to create a scheduled job on WinTel boxes to run a script that would execute the REFRESH CLUSTER command every evening. This didn't have any effect: the #3 queue manager (a partial now FULL repository) continues to experience the MQRC_UNKNOWN_OBJECT_NAME error on an intermittent basis when trying to connect to remote queues. It is odd that manual execution of the REFRESH CLUSTER command still seems to be the fix for this situation when it occurs.

Can anyone provide some insight into what the problem may be? Are there some other things I could check or try?

Really appreciate the assistance.

The next time you see the error, look at the status of the cluster channels.

Make sure that the sender and receivers are working.

Then use amqsput or amqsputc to connect and open the remote queue.
