Yup, all on the same server. I have it all sorted out now thanks. Direct Server connection. The issue was with the User that runs SQL Server Express in the end.

Hi, thanks, I managed to trace the problem to an error 500, the confusion was being caused by the visual debugger actually, it wasnt stopping at a breakpoint as expected.
