I do not want the instances to become just expired state.
I wanted to terminate them. I guess best way to do that is to cretae "Clean up" job using API to terminate old instances.

Let me explain again, when the last activity of sub-process finishes, the parent process is already gone.
Is it possible that the parent process finishes prior to sub-process?

I am not trying to write a program or customize for this via API.
Are you sure the activity type is selectable column?
It does not appear in the filter dialoge in thick client.
