Dear All,

We have IIB v9 and we need to upgrade to ACE 12
the IIB is using MQ 7.5 - we also want to upgrade this to 9.2
Both IIB and MQ are on the same server...

Which upgrade can we start with first (MQ or ACE)

Thanks
Heba

Make a little software compatibility matrix table.

Create a spreadsheet where the rows are labeled the MQ versions (MQ 7.5, 8.0, 9.0, 9.1, 9.2) and the columns are labeled the IIB versions (IIB v9, IIB v10, ACE v11, ACE v12).

Then refer to the System Requirements pages on IBM's website for MQ and IIB/ACE. Use this info to color the cells red, yellow, green in your spreadsheet for each intersecting row/column and you will get a heat map view for what combinations are supported or not. Pay attention to the IBM System Requirements pages for cases where specific minimum fix pack versions are assumed or required and note that in your matrix.

This will give you the answers you need based on your own research using official info on the subject from IBM. You could should exppand this matrix to include other relative things to keep track of for comparability, like the Operating System.

Yes, its a little bit of work (30 minutes max). But better than blindly accepting some answer from some random stranger on the internet on an unofficial forum. If the upgrade goes bad because you attempted an unsupported mix of versions, your boss won't want to hear "Yeah, but some user called dummyMQ2033 on that free message board said it would be good")

Also, read this section in the ACE v12 Knowledge Center. You won't be upgrading in place from IIB v9 to ACE v12.

Several things need to be taken care of before migration
1. plan for Migration - In Place or parallel
2. How are the clients connecting to MQ and IIB Broker
3. what is the appetite for Service Outage
