... New Year's greetings ...

normally when we create a M-I QMgr, we specify the -ld, -md flag with the corresponding nfs mounts, like /MQHA_LOG, /MQHA_DATA.

recently, I saw an M-I QM setup the same manner, but with symlinks /var/mqm/log/QM1 -> /MQHA_LOG/QM1, and
/var/mqm/qmgrs/QM1 -> /MQHA_DATA/QM1 respectively.

Entries in both /var/mqm/mqs.ini and /var/mqm/qmgrs/QM1/qm.ini point to locations using the symlink reference.

I like the arrangement, as the default location is very convenient for everyone. So I try to do the same when creating a new M-I QM, by creating a directory QM1 on the NFS mount points and then a symlink like the above.

But the command crtmqm won't take it as QM1 already exists in /var/mqm/qmgrs and /var/mqm/log. Instead, it creates a directory QM0 instead.

I found out, this configuration was migrated from a pair of MQAppliances.

It's likely I can create QM1 the normal way as I did before by pointing to the NFS mount points, backup the folder /var/mqm/qmgrs/QM1, delete the folder, then recreate it as a symlink to /MQHA_DATA/QM1 copy the backed up content to the symlink folder and then modify /var/mqm/mqs.ini and /var/mqm/qmgrs/QM1/qm.ini to reference default path.

But somehow this doesn't sound like a clean approach, and might leave hidden inconsistencies.

Is there a better way to do this? Thanks for sharing your insight!

http://www.mqseries.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=78050 may be helpful.

Its much easier and less error prone if crtmqm is run with data & log dirs specified at the required mount points, rather than post-edit of mqs.ini & qm.ini files and moving dirs around.
